An attempt has been made to shed light on the complex interplay between climate change and socio-cultural practices in the studied community.
Long Abstract
:

Climate change is a global phenomenon with far-reaching impacts, extending beyond the realms of the environment and economy to significantly influencing socio-cultural practices worldwide. This presentation aims to explore the transformative effects of climate change on socio-cultural practices, shedding light on the profound shifts occurring within the horticultural community of Kotkhai tehsil of District Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India.

As temperatures is increasing, snowfall is declining  and extreme weather events have become more frequent in the studied area, people are forced to adapt their cultural norms, traditions, and rituals to cope with the changing environmental conditions. These shifts manifest in various ways, ranging from altered agricultural practices and changing dietary habits to  adjustments in socio-cultural practices.

Mountain ecosystem is a sensitive ecosystem and people have maintained a close relationship with their natural surroundings. Climate change disrupts the delicate balance between these communities and their environments. Water scarcity is one of the major impact of climate change that has led to changes in community dynamics, social organization, and decision-making processes. There has been changes in the traditional ceremonies and practices related to marriage and rituals related to death. The cohesiveness of the community is also being impacted. Other than water scarcity, migration of the younger generation towards cities for better education and employment opportunities has resulted in the blending of traditions, the emergence of hybrid identities, and the loss of certain cultural elements.

As climate change continues to shape our planet, it is essential to recognize and comprehend the profound impacts it has on socio-cultural practices. By doing so, we can work towards fostering cultural resilience and adaptive strategies that will enable communities to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world. By exploring case studies, this presentation aims to provide insights into the complex interactions between climate change and socio-cultural practices.
