This virtual exhibition on Kashmiri cultural heritage, hosted by the Department of Anthropology, Cluster University Srinagar, uses a visual anthropological approach to showcase the region’s unique traditions and practices. It covers various aspects such as food, dress, music, and art, and explores the impact of historical, political, and social factors on Kashmiri culture. The exhibition offers a digital means of presenting cultural heritage to the audience, raising questions about the role of digital media in preserving and sharing cultural practices. This paper examines the exhibition’s visual anthropological perspective, including 2D images with textual information, audio annotations, and 3D virtual tours.

The virtual exhibition on the Kashmiri cultural heritage hosted by the Department of Anthropology, Cluster University Srinagar is grounded in a visual anthropological approach that emphasizes the use of visual media to understand and communicate cultural practices and traditions. It includes sections on different aspects of Kashmiri culture, such as food, dress, music, and art, each of which is presented in a way that highlights its unique features and cultural significance, depicted through photographs and videos. The exhibition also explores the ways in which Kashmiri culture has been influenced by historical, political, and social factors. By offering a virtual window into the Kashmiri culture, this exhibition aims to promote greater appreciation and understanding of the cultural diversity of the region.

This paper shall explore the virtual exhibition of the Kashmiri cultural heritage from a visual anthropological perspective. The focus would be to understand how the exhibition offers a novel and engaging way of presenting cultural heritage that can reach a wider audience than traditional museum exhibitions. It would also raise questions about the role of digital media in preserving and sharing cultural heritage and the challenges of representing cultural practices and traditions through visual media. The aim is to provide a real visit experience, to show the Kashmiri culture through visual techniques.  Approaches including 2D images with additional textual information, audio annotations, and 3D virtual tours will be included.
