:
The configuration of other communities in the Mixteca Alta of Oaxaca. Shared futures and projected traditions
Short Abstract
:
This paper seeks to narrate and analyze the configuration of other communities, built by actors identified with Mixtec ethnicity and who have in common an aspiration and a future horizon for culture, as well as the use of contemporary and future means for the projection of their vision of the region and its culture.
Long Abstract
:

The communities of the Mixteca Alta have had a long history of transformation and reconfiguration motivated by their particular way of adapting to the challenges imposed by national and global contexts. New technologies, the appropriation of resources such as cinema and documentaries, the dissemination of customs through digital platforms, the creation of visual artists, musicians and poets have opened horizons of ethnic future for subjects who recognize themselves as Mixtecs. In this paper we narrate and analyze the configuration of other communities, built by actors identified with Mixtec ethnicity and who have in common an aspiration and a future horizon for culture, in addition to the use of contemporary and future media for the projection of their vision of the region and its culture.
The case of women and men who have begun to generate associations based on the common interest of preserving languages and traditions is presented. Forms of community that transcend the local but not the regional, where new community cartographies are being delineated. Just as we observe communality around the future projection of the language, we also find community links based on the desire to give viability to villages whose populations are depleted because their natives have left them as emigrants. Finally, the network of Mixtec artists and creators are beginning to play an important role in the national and worldwide recognition of this Mexican ethnicity. Artists that trace a horizon in their concerns to give new vigencies and possibilities to the Mixtec being.
