The present study was conducted in a soccer training center at Ashoknagar, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The study looked at the socio-economic background of children who train at the center. The age group of children varied from five years to twelve years. The objectives of the study were to look at the socio-economic background of parents, their educational qualifications, occupation, income, motive behind taking their children to practice, their role in the practice sessions and if they get any benefit out of it. It was found that the socio-economic background varied among the children along with educational background and income of the parents. The motives varied from making their children fit both physically and mentally and energetic, be in professional game in future, play casually to become a meritorious sportsman that helps in getting jobs in public sector when they grow up to be adults. The socio-economic status along with some domestic and cultural factors of the family of the children soccer trainees affect their participation in the sport event. The study demonstrated a prime importance of familial or parental background in terms of socio-economic as well as socio-psychological issues that are significant regarding the trainee’s present and future attachment in the sporting event. The parents, mostly mothers on the other hand get their own sphere for recreation beside the field thrice a week and get a break from their daily ‘monotonous’ life.
