The Bodos, Tribal Life And Livelihoods: An Empirical Study From Assam

Bodo people belong to an ethnic and linguistic community. The bodo people are the largest minority group in Assam. Bodo people are a part of the Bodo- Kachari family group. They have rich culture and also rich tradition in regards of dresses. Bodos have a tradition of waving cloth, which is an essential part of women . Main livelihood of bodos is farming. They are also good in animal and birds rearing.

Bodo people belong to an ethnic and linguistic community. The bodo people are the largest minority group in Assam. They are found in the northern areas of the Brahmaputra River valley. They speak bodo language which belongs to the Tibeto- Burman language family. Bodo people are a part of the Bodo- Kachari family group. The bodo tribe is largest tribe in Assam of others tribes. They have rich culture and also rich tradition in regards of dresses. Bodos have a tradition of waving cloth, which is an essential part of women . Main livelihood of bodos is farming. They are also good in animal and birds rearing. They are good in waving in handloom. Bodos are the first cultivator of rice and silk in Assam. There are some landless Bodos also they either take the land from others as rent or work as daily wage labour. Some people have fish farming also, but it is very few number they just do it for home consumption mainly but now a days some people get government job like teacher and army. There are busy in their world. Outside of that world do not affect them a lot. After observing all some suggestions can be given that commercial fish farming integrated with pig cultivation will be good livelihood opportunity. They are well skilled to use bamboo if some training given for making handicraft from bamboo it can be a livelihood. Primary and secondary data for the purpose of the paper are to be collected from published and unpublished research articles in journals.
