Floods make people vulnerable and impact their social, cultural, and economic life and increase their exposure to risk and hazard. It not only impacts the livelihood but also impacts the physical and mental health. So, in this paper, the researcher will try to explain the impact of the flood and its impact on different aspects of the life of tea garden workers at Bokel tea garden of Assam.
Long Abstract
:

Assam the North Eastern state of India is affected by floods every year. Every year Brahmaputra and Barak rivers with more than 50 numbers of tributaries cause flood devastation during monsoon season. According to the Rashtriya Barh Ayog (RBA), 31.05 lakh hectares of area of the state is flood-prone. An average of 9.31 lakh hectares of the area are affected by floods every year. The floods caused a dramatic loss of livelihood. The Dibrugarh district situated on the bank of the river Brahmaputra is one of the most flood-prone districts of Assam. The district is situated such that it remains exposed to mainstream flooding from the Brahmaputra River, tributary flooding from the Buridehingmukh River, Maijan Beel, and local flooding from heavy rains. Flood causes homelessness and joblessness. Floods make people vulnerable and impact their social, cultural, and economic life and increase their exposure to risk and hazard. It not only impacts the livelihood but also impacts the physical and mental health. In this paper, the Bokel Tea garden of Dibrugarh district is selected to explain the life of flood-affected people. The flood of the river Brahmaputra effect the Bokel Tea garden especially the Chawalkhuwa division every year. As they are daily wage workers and traditionally marginalized, temporary displacement from their homes very often creates severe havoc. Thus, to study the impact of flood in the lives of people this paper tries to explain its impact on different aspects of their life.
