Abstract Title
:
DEVELOPMENTAL INITIATIVES OF THE STATE FOR THE BORDERLAND TRIBE AND ITS GRASSROOT LEVEL NARRATIVE: A STUDY OF CHANG TRIBE OF NAGALAND
Short Abstract
:
Although numerous provisions have been enacted under the Constitution, the tribes of India, particularly the tribes of North East today remain the most ‘underdeveloped community’. This paper thus investigates how funds are being allocated and dispersed in Nagaland state. It will also bring to light the local narratives about such states’ initiatives and how well it is implemented at the grass root level.
Long Abstract
:

Central Government had always been munificent while allotting funds to Northeast India imputing that they are located at the nation’s borders and that they are economically backward than the rest of the country. Today, Nagaland state is 90% dependent on the Centre for its income; however, it is apparent that public spending has not been able to change the economic scenario of the state.  Whilst it remains one of the States that receives a huge sum from the Central Government as a form of largesse owing to its ‘economic backwardness’, no remarkable change has been noticed to date especially in the remote districts in economic and infrastructural developmental aspects mismatching the huge inflow of money. This paper thus investigates how funds are being allocated and dispersed in Nagaland state. It will also bring to light the local narratives about such states’ initiatives and how well it is implemented at the grass root level.
