Through the review of the theory of economic and cultural types, the paper thinks that the "proto-ecological" theory of economic and cultural types is unable to explain the complex modern society. But we can use the concept of "economic and cultural types" and research ideas, combined with field investigation, to develop a set of "modern" theoretical methods. Based on this theoretical basis, this paper clarifies the research object and analysis framework, puts forward the research model of economic and cultural types, explores the factors that affect the economic and cultural types of small towns, analyzes the "modern" economic and cultural types of small towns relocated to poverty alleviation in inhospitable areas, and concludes the new economic and cultural types of innovation-transplant, embedd-creation, integration-transformation. To explore successful experience in the transformation and development of poverty-relief relocated towns in inhospitable areas.
