Abstract Title
:

Short Abstract
:
Bihar is an agrarian state despite being prone to Flood. Every year flood come in several districts in the month of June to September. In this span of time flood has sever repercussion on both biotic and abiotic. An empirical study has been conducted to determine perception on vulnerability.
Long Abstract
:

The state of Bihar is adversely affected by natural disaster in the form of Earthquake, flood and drought. Among all the natural disaster flash food is the most commonly occurring during the month of July to September, every year, which destroy not only standing crops in the field but also loss of assets, infrastructure and several lives in the state of Bihar. As the economy of the state of Bihar is mainly based on agriculture, farmers of the state are highly vulnerable in the fragile agroecology. The present empirical study has focussed on the Perception on social vulnerability in the regularly flood prone district Purnea of Bihar. The face to face interview was conducted with the help of pre- structured interview schedule with the 40 farmers in the village Harerampur under Baisi block of Purnea district in Bihar. The collected data were analysed with the help of SPSS-23. The findings of the result revealed that Family size (x6), Vulnerable members (x9), Age (x1) and Perception on occupation (x4) of the respondents were negatively and significantly correlated with perception on social vulnerability of the farmers. It has also been found that Credit load (x16), Education (x2) and Credit load (x16) were positively and significantly correlated with the perception on social vulnerability of the respondents in the locale of study. The predictors viz. Age (x1), Education (x2), Perception on occupation (x4), Family size (x6), Vulnerable members (x9), Social participation (x11) and Credit load (x16) have cumulatively contributed 82.4 per cent of the variance in characterizing the predicted variable Perception on social vulnerability of the respondents. The findings of the result conclude that regularly flooded fragile agroecology of the state of Bihar can be made resilient and sustainable with timely intervention of an appropriate technology.
