Life matters, the dignity of life matters even more. However, this has not been the case with LGBTQIA community. The ‘transgender’ community in this context has been one such community, which used to be treated in a very hypocritical way, particularly in Indian society since generations. Although there have been a number of supportive initiatives for them in form of human rights, positive social awareness, legal provisions providing them a separate gender identity with equal citizen rights with a number of additional provisions India they have been missing social recognition and respect they used to have in ancient time. During the past couple of decades many educated and learned transgender leaders have been making positive efforts to get desired social acceptance by presenting their religious importance and by asserting and establishing their religious identity under the larger umbrella of Hindu religious system. To an extent, they have been successful in securing prestigious religious positions in the organisational setup of Hinduism. The recent examples of establishment of a separate ‘Kinnar (transgender) Akhada’ and appointments of few transgender religious leaders as Mahamandaleshwaras in the topmost Akhada system explain the entire upward movement of the transgender community in Indian social system. The present research papers attempts to describe analyse and conclude the entire journey of the transgender community so far in India that has taken them to the topmost level of social acceptance from the bottom of negligence and hatred. This upward social movement of the transgender community is setting up a new affirmative gender narrative not only in India but also at the global level.
