Long Abstract
:

This paper reflects on the implications and promises of using sensory media over a decade of working across countries, research topics and methods. I will draw on my involvement, in different capacities, in ethnographic films (Poland, Serbia) and multimedia installations (Germany, France), my research on media art (Poland), as well as the integration of a multimodal approach in my ongoing work on religion and technology (Japan). The aim is not to present a review of ethnographic recollections, but to consider how and to what extent these research projects and experiences offer convergent epistemic and methodological insights. This provides an opportunity to think through anthropologically unexplored or insufficiently explored contributions from art, film theory and philosophy beyond the ingrained frames of conceptual reference.
