The present paper is concentrate on the Santal community of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha who had been migrated to this region from neighbouring states like, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and West Bengal. As per 2011 Census, the Scheduled Tribes (ST) population of Odisha is about 95,90,756, which comprising of 49.29% males and 50.71% females from 22,32,334 households. Out of 95, 90,756 populations of Scheduled Tribes (ST), Santal holds 8,94,764. The Santal have learned generational talents in art and crafts which observed through their beautiful house architecture, wall painting, wood and metal crafts. Art and crafts are reflections of material culture, which highlights their traditional wisdom. This paper examines how traditional wisdom exists in the form of the art and crafts in the Santal society. The cultural heritage of Santal is unique, which gives ethnic identity to the study population. The core objectives of this study are to explore the art and crafts and highlight the indigenous knowledge intertwined with this. This paper is based on the primary as well as secondary information. The primary information was collected through field study by using anthropological tools and techniques among Santal of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. The secondary data also collected from several sources like, magazines, research papers, articles and website etc. The outcome of the study highlights the existing art and craft and transformational journey about the subject of study. The study concludes that there are continuity and change due to the adaptation of different forms of art and crafts among Santal population.
