Abstract Title
:
Silent Struggles: Unveiling Mental Health Challenges among Youth in Jammu and Kashmir’s Border Regions
Short Abstract
:
Border areas are a site of perennial conflict and risk. India’s border with Pakistan is rife with military tension, illegal migration, smuggling, and trans-border movement of insurgents, which are severe threats to the nation’s security. Therefore, the border remains under the continuous gaze of the border security forces. Border communities residing across the India-Pakistan border are among the most neglected societies despite being vulnerable to various risks. Stress and disorder are characteristic of these conflict areas, and the mental health burden of the border communities remains underestimated. Through this presentation I delve into the profound mental health challenges faced by the youth residing in the border villages of Jammu and Rajouri districts. By focusing on in-depth case studies, I explore the diverse and intricate struggles experienced by the youth as they confront stressors unique to their circumstances. By highlighting these narratives, this presentation aims to foster a deeper understanding of the multifaceted stressors faced by the youth in Jammu and Kashmir’s border regions.
