This paper elucidates my journey of practising anthropology in the city of Delhi over four decades. Being trained in anthropology from University of Delhi and also having taught there briefly in the Nineties is the vantage point from where I look my journey to being later located in the departments of Sociology at Delhi School of Economics in the nineties and at Jawaharlal Nehru University in the last two decades

The focus would be on the institutional histories and disciplinary practices on the one hand and my negotiations with the varied meanings on the other.  Experiences through the three prominent institutions where anthropology and sociology interface and are being taught would inform the disciplinary transactions.
