ETHNOMUSICOLOGY: BUKIDNON’S IDENTITY AND LEGACY. ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the lifeline songs of Bukidnon and to showcase how these songs reflect and embody the culture of Bukidnon. Specifically, this study find out the profile of Bukidnon singers and performers their history and experiences, the different purposes of indigenous songs that molded the identity and legacy of Bukidnon, the meanings assigned to the music according to its purpose by the Indigenous Bukinon music, the methodological approaches utilized in studying the songs of Bukidnon. Two selected singers/performers from each barangay Dit-Ana, Mamba, Medina, and Panipiason who have qualified the given criteria of the researcher were the subjects of the study. The purposes of the indigenous songs to Bukidnon are for rituals, bountiful harvest, courtship, burial/marriage, merry-making and gatherings. Each song has various meanings that reflects their everyday life and the approaches of indigenous songs to Bukidnon are religious, cultural, social and environmental.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the lifeline songs of Bukidnon and to showcase how these songs reflect and embody the culture of Bukidnon. Specifically, this study find out the profile of Bukidnon singers and performers their history and experiences, the different purposes of indigenous songs that molded the identity and legacy of Bukidnon, the meanings assigned to the music according to its purpose by the Indigenous Bukinon music, the methodological approaches utilized in studying the songs of Bukidnon. Two selected singers/performers from each barangay Dit-Ana, Mamba, Medina, and Panipiason who have qualified the given criteria of the researcher were the subjects of the study.

Questionnaire, interview guide and observation notes were used in data gathering. Critical analysis was employed to comprehend the qualitative data gathered. It would help in discussing the contents shown by the participants, observations from the field of study, and experiences shared by the people.

The results show that most of the singers/ composers are 86- 95 years old. They were all married and most of the singers and performers are elders in their community. The purposes of the indigenous songs to Bukidnon are for rituals, bountiful harvest, courtship, burial/marriage, merry-making and gatherings. Each song has various meanings that reflects their everyday life and the approaches of indigenous songs to Bukidnon are religious, cultural, social and environmental.
