Universal Health Coverage aims to deliver, health services people need, when and where they need without facing financial hardships. One of the fundamental philosophy of the Sowa Rigpa advocates to work for ‘benefit of all sentient beings’ (Tib. Gro phan). Sowa Rigpa is a Tibetan word which means 'Science of healing'. In 2010, Government of India officially recognized under Ministry of AYUSH as an Indian system of medicine. However, in contemporary times, Sowa Rigpa is in crisis due to dwindling numbers of the practitioners. The declining trend in Sowa Rigpa providers can be attributed through several factors such as; lack of training of young enthusiast, increasing popularity of bio-medicines, lack of social, administrative and political support and lack of professional opportunity for young practitioners. The dwindling numbers of pracititioners is alarming for Sowa Rigpa system of medicine. This traditional system of knowledge has been utilised by the population of Lahaul and Spiti since time immemorial. The pracititioners of Sowa Rigpa enjoy an esteemed social status among villages. However, this has been changing in contemporary times which is intertwined with constantly changing social structures. Therefore, it becomes although more important for paying urgent attention to the dwindling Sowa Rigpa healthcare. The road map for the Sowa Rigpa revitalization should be lead by local community as well as communities of academicians, social workers and administrators. By fostering the collaboration, promotinhg education, and enhancing research. Thus, it is possible to reverse the dwindling trends.
