‘Inside Resistance’: A Sociological Understanding of Children’s Resistance Inside the Observation Homes.
Short Abstract
:
The practice of resistance is one of the key means for the marginalisd to register their concern to the powerful. Various socio cultural factors lead the marginalised children to commit offence and being booked under the juvenile justice act which call them as offenders’, It has found that children register subtle form of resistance the through the various activites, language, body language, symbols and actions. The resistance indictates sign against oppression by dominant forces on them.
Long Abstract
:

Why does resistance exist in society ? What are the ways and means by which children practiced when they kept inside the confined space? So far, the concept of resistance has used as an analytical tool to explore sociopolitical and cultural resistance by the various marginalized groups. It aimed to target opposite forces that hold power to meet their goals. However, this concept has been used vastly in different fields of discipline to understand various aspects of resistance. However, there is limited information in the academic research on how marginalised children respond when they book under different charges and are kept in a confined space. This paper drawn from Ph.D. fieldwork carried out inside the observation homes meant for children in conflict booked juvenile justice act. The study aims to understand how children in this space make sense as alleged ‘offenders’ by system. The particpants includes diverse school/ college enrolled students school dropouts under 18 years of age.. The concept of resistance has employed to understand the resistant that registered by children. It has used an ethnographic approach used for data collection and analysis, which involved close record of field notes, observation of everyday activities, and interactions among children, staff and officials.

Subtle form of resistance that generate through the various activites, communications, language, body language, symbols and actions produed in this confined space. Children expressively resist against various socio cultural values that lead them to placed under the observation home. They practice various forms of resistance towards the legal charges and institutional practice they go suppose to go engage in everyday activities inside the observation home. It also found that  children in this setttings engages with subculture that gives individual freedom, voice, and a liberating life style within the boundaries.
