"Exploring Health-Seeking Behaviour and Access to Healthcare Services among the Marginalized Sahariya (PVTG) Tribe in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, India"
Short Abstract
:
This study aims to explore health seeking behavior and access to services among the Sahariya (PVTG) tribe. Data has been collected through a mixed-methods approach. It has been found that the Sahariya tribe's health-seeking behavior is influenced by several factors, including traditional beliefs, a lack of awareness and knowledge, poverty, and the absence of basic healthcare infrastructure. The study further revealed that the Sahariya tribe primarily relies on traditional healers and home remedies to treat their illnesses due to their belief in the supernatural power of traditional healing methods. In addition, the study also found that the Sahariya tribe faces numerous challenges in accessing healthcare services, including poor transportation infrastructure, the high cost of healthcare, and a lack of qualified medical personnel.

:

As per the report of the MoHFW and MoTA, Govt. of India, tribals are facing a triple burden of diseases. The Sahariya tribe is one of the most marginalized communities in India and faces multiple challenges in accessing healthcare services. This abstract aims to explore the health-seeking behavior and utilization of healthcare services among the Sahariya tribe in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh. The study utilized a mixed-methods approach, comprising of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The data collection methods included in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, Case studies, and a household survey. The study findings indicate that the Sahariya tribe's health-seeking behavior is influenced by several factors, including traditional beliefs, lack of awareness and knowledge, poverty, and the absence of basic healthcare infrastructure. The study further revealed that the Sahariya tribe primarily relies on traditional healers and home remedies to treat their illnesses due to their belief in the supernatural power of traditional healing methods. In addition, the study also found that the Sahariya tribe faces numerous challenges in accessing healthcare services, including poor transportation infrastructure, the high cost of healthcare, and the lack of qualified medical personnel. Overall, the study highlights the urgent need for policymakers and healthcare professionals to address the various barriers to healthcare access faced by the Sahariya tribe. Efforts should be made to improve healthcare infrastructure and raise awareness about the importance of seeking medical care for treating illnesses. Additionally, there is a need to collaborate with traditional healers to promote the use of modern healthcare services while also respecting traditional beliefs and practices.
