The paper is an attempt to find out the ways through which traditional healing practises contribute to health status in rural areas and the challenges that such practises face in the light of modernity and change.

The present research paper is the result of anthropological fieldwork tradition, where data have been collected from primary sources. This research paper focuses on 150 household groups selected from two villages of Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh province.
   Beautiful healthy life is a major component of the Indian social structure and organization, on the basis of which expression is given to the lifestyle from birth to salvation, which is the philosophical side of the rural India , to achieve it at the physical and spiritual level . An indigenous tradition of knowledge system related health has been prevalent in small and large scale, using which a person makes his life healthy.
    Villagers take advantage of traditional home remedies in the event of common illness, which is based on experience and perception in the form of indigenous knowledge, which is being maintained from generation to generation, even in the event of serious illness. This information isbpassed on in oral tradition. It is beneficial and it has been used by common people for years.
    In conclusion, it can be said that the development of resources, technological progress, geographical proximity, influence of modernity, and change in socio-cultural values, etc. have definitely changed the attitude of the person towards traditional treatment, but the knowledge of indigenous treatment process has not changed. The significance of this has made a deep penetration in the Indian rural life, due to which even today this process is maintaining its continuity.
